Since the May 26th article about Balanced Education for Everyone in the Denver Post, a gross inaccuracy has been spread about our campaign.
Our campaign has NEVER advocated for the removal of global warming education from school curriculums. Quite the opposite, BEE advocates for more discussion in the classroom surrounding man-made global warming. The side of the debate that touts man-made global warming as fact has been well represented in schools. However, the side that has questions and raises concerns has not. We believe students should be taught to study conflicting information and make judgments based on that information.
Any notion that we seek to limit academic discussion in the classroom is patently false.
It’s important to engage teachers before there is a problem in the classroom. In a polite, non-confrontational manner, you can simply have a discussion with your child’s teacher about the curriculum, including any discussion of climate change.
Ask the teacher if climate change is a topic that will be covered.
Make sure the teacher appreciates the need for balance on this, and other, politically charged topic.
Inform the teacher about helpful resources like Not Evil Just Wrong, which can help in preparing a balanced lesson plan.
